A History Shaped by Over Two Centuries

Some places carry their history lightly, and we're proud to be one of them. Among the most storied hotels in Wolfeboro, NH, The Wolfeboro Inn has been part of this town's fabric since 1812, when what began as a private home slowly found its calling as a place where people gather, rest, and feel genuinely welcome. Two centuries of changing times, evolving ownership, and a town that grew right alongside us, and through all of it, the inn has remained exactly what it was always meant to be.

Our Story Through the Years

The Wolfeboro Inn Timeline

The Beginning

In 1812, Nathaniel Rogers built what would become The Wolfeboro Inn. Originally a private home, the property remained in the Rogers family for 75 years, rooted in the early history of Wolfeboro.

1871

A Town Connected

With the arrival of the railroad and access to Lake Winnipesaukee steamships, Wolfeboro became more accessible. Tourism grew steadily, and the Rogers home began welcoming guests for refreshments.

1920s–1930s

From Home to Guest House

The property evolved into The Copper Kettle and later Carr House, a summer guest house known for its attentive service and welcoming atmosphere.

1945–1950s

A Year-Round Inn

Following World War II, Carr House reopened in 1945. By the 1950s, it had become The Wolfeboro Inn and transitioned into a year-round destination.

1960s

Renewal and Recognition

In the early 1960s, Paul and Mary McBride purchased the inn and brought new energy to the property. Its cuisine gained recognition, including features in Holiday Magazine, and plans for expansion began.

1987

Expansion by the Lake

A three-story addition expanded the inn, introducing new accommodations with lake views while maintaining its New England character.

2007

A New Chapter

The inn was purchased by Hay Creek Hotels, marking the beginning of a new phase of stewardship focused on preserving its legacy while enhancing the guest experience.
